New officers elected at SWI 2022 Annual General Meeting

The 2022 Annual General Meeting of the SWI took place at the 51 Bar on Haddington Road, Dublin on Tuesday 27 September with a number of new executive committee positions filled. Irish Independent Chief Sports Analysis Writer David Kelly was elected the new SWI President. John Fallon (Irish Examiner) took over as Vice President and Anthony Pyne (RTE.ie) was elected Secretary. The Irish Times' Gavin Cummiskey succeeded Owen Cowzer as International Affairs officer and RTE broadcaster Marie Crowe became our first Women's Football Officer. Marie's ambition in this new role is to increase female representation on the SWI and further develop a relationship with the FAI to ensure there is adequate access to the women’s team and an open line of communication if any issues arise. Likewise with the clubs in the Women's National League. Paul Fennessy (The42.ie) is the new SWI Treasurer, while Barry Landy has taken over as PRO. Noel Spillane continues as Domestic Affairs Officer. Soccer Writers Ireland would again like to take the opportunity to thank outgoing President Tony O'Donoghue, Secretary Gavin Cooney and PRO Ben Blake for their tireless efforts in their respective roles.

Additionally, the meeting saw member Paul Lennon ratified for life membership of the SWI in recognition of his decades of service to football journalism.
