Where There's a Will, There's a Win: Jarvis scoops SSE Airtricity/SWI Player of the Month award again

Shelbourne winger Will Jarvis has been named the SSE Airtricity/Soccer Writers Ireland Player of the Month for June, securing the award for the second time in just four months.

Damien Duff's league leaders enjoyed an unbeaten month in June, winning all three of their games in the SSE Airtricity Men's Premier Division to maintain their advantage over Derry City at the summit.

Jarvis has, as ever, proved crucial to the Reds' efforts. Some superb wing play led to John Martin's winning goal in the match against Dundalk at Tolka Park, with the 21-year-old beating his man before delivering a low cross into the box.

Six days later against Waterford, Jarvis found the net for the game's only goal. He robbed Grant Horton of the ball in midfield and raced towards goal, finishing with aplomb to earn three points for his side.

His win this month ensures Shelbourne have now claimed the POTM award in three of the first five months this season. The prize will be a further boost to Jarvis as he and his team kick off their European campaign at home to St Joseph's of Gibraltar on Thursday evening.

In a vote of SWI members, Jarvis held off competition from Derry centre forward Patrick Hoban and Waterford's Connor Parsons to claim the prize.

Speaking after receiving his award, he said: "It's always nice to win something. You can't complain after winning two in four months! I think I've had better months but I'll take the award. I'm glad to win."

On his move back to Shels after a successful spell last term, Jarvis added: "It's looking like a good decision so far. There's still time to go but if the season finished now, it'd be a great decision.

"I feel like the whole club is buzzing at the minute, obviously being top of the league. Not being in Europe for so long, and being back, the fans should be buzzing. The players and and the staff are buzzing."

Tolka Park will be a sell out for tomorrow night's UEFA Europa Conference League clash and Jarvis believes the supporters who've waited 18 years to experience the highs of a European night in Drumcondra will spur the team on.

"I'm hoping that they'll be louder than ever tomorrow," he said. "We've never played these before, and it's nice to play a new opponent. I'm hoping the fans bring the noise, like they have most of the season and hopefully we can get a good result."

The six-man shortlist for June's Player of the Month award also featured Derry City's Adam O'Reilly, Cian Coleman of First Division leaders Cork City and Jarvis' Shels teammate JJ Lunney.
